DIY Valentine's Day Tie Dye
Happy New Year!
Or wait, is it too late to say that already? Time certainly flies when your kids are on Winter Break for what seems like forever and then immediately get sick when school is back in session... But seriously, we can't believe it's already February!! And in case you are looking for a little Valentine's Day crafting inspo look no further cause we have got you covered. This little DIY is easier than it looks and super cute ❤️. Here's how we turned a plain white tee into a sweet Valentine's day inspired tie dye masterpiece. Enjoy!
What you need:
White T-shirt
Plastic squeeze bottles
Pink and/or red fabric dye
A fabric marker
Some rubber bands
Gloves to protect your hands
Some sort of plastic or other protection for your surfaces because this gets messy
You can also get a tie dye kit that has *most* of these items already included. We linked a good one here.
Step 1
Fold your t-shirt in half lengthwise and sketch a half of a heart shape with a fabric marker. This will be your guide for pleating so you get the heart shape in the center of the tee.
Step 2
Pleat the middle of the fabric using the half heart as your guide. Secure tightly with rubber bands. Use rubber bands to make additional sections you would like to create a pattern. (If this sounds confusing, we made a little video for you in our Instagram stories and will pin it to the highlights section under Inside Scoop. You can also find it on Pinterest just search for IceCrmCstls)
Step 3
Place banded tee on a covered surface. Pour dye on t-shirt. If you want it to be super saturated gently massage the dye into the fabric where desired. Use golved when handling unless you're cool with dying your hands as well. Let sit for 2-24 hours.
Step 4
Rinse the shirt in cold water until water runs clear. You can now snip off the rubber bands and admire your handy work. Put it in the washing machine by itself and run it through the gentle cycle just make sure the water is cold. Air dry and you are good to go.
